7/3/09 Credit card processing down.
Don MacAskill
Authorize.net, one of our payment processors, is having an outage. They’ve been offline since 11:15pm PST July 2nd (last night) due to a fire at their datacenter in Seattle. Apparently their backup datacenter, in San Jose, couldn’t handle the load and is also having problems. You can find more information on their Twitter account and this TechCrunch article.
Our other payment methods, like Amazon’s Payments service, remain online. We hope Authorize.net will be able to fix their problems soon – it sounds like they’re making progress.
We’re sorry for the headaches this is causing you and your customers, and will aggressively explore alternative options that have better redundancy in the future.

We’re all set, thanks for your patience. There should have been little to no impact (unless you were using our API with IE6, but we fixed that problem!)

6/11/09 Maintenance
Andrew Gibbons
Sorry for the late notice (and for the inconvenience), but we’re going to put ourselves into read-only with some brief periods of total outage as we try to collect some diagnostic data from our new load balancer firmware. Hopefully it will be short and sweet, but there might be some extended downtime with the API as we break it for a bit! I’ll try to be fast, and will post when we’re done! Starting in a few minutes….

Looks like there’s an issue with the network software update performed earlier, we have reverted and will troubleshoot (and reschedule) the update for later. Sorry again folks.

Andrew Gibbons
We’re currently tracking an issue with api.smugmug.com that may or may not be related to last night’s network maintenance. We are still troubleshooting, however might need to place the site in read-only mode. More info here once we know more, sorry about this!

Sorry folks, ran into some hiccups. We did our best to revert and keep things out of read-only mode and full outage as much as possible. Everything ended up well in the end! Thanks, and sorry for any inconvenience!
